The IPCC embraces caution, a green think tank takes Big Oil money, and Big Soda got rolled by Big Green.

Part One: Hippie of the Week
This week, the Beeb wins hippie of the week. Don’t worry, it’s not a prepubescent mop-top singing entity, but dear old Aunty.
The BBC has been caught red-handed favoring greens, without letting on to viewers that some of its programs are almost entirely bought and paid for by activist groups:
One of the programmes in breach of guidelines was “Taking the Credit” made by for BBC World on the subject of Africa and climate change by the award-winning British production company Rockhopper television. The Trust found that the programme had effectively been sponsored by the Envirotrade organisation, despite the fact that current affairs programmes are prohibited from using sponsorship. Envirotrade was featured in a positive light in the programme but “viewers were unaware that there was a funding arrangement in place,” said the Trust report.
The BBC was skewered already for dropping the global warming episode for overseas viewers from its new Frozen Planet series, putting profit before prophets, so to speak. And should you wonder where Aunty sits regarding global warming, well, let their own hacktastic man on the global warming beat, Richard Black, tell you what to think.
British readers can sit back and bask in the glow that this is what they pay the TV license for.
Part Two: Warmists
Greenpeace took its new luxury yacht for a spin, and invited emo-rockster Thom Yorke along for the ride. Also aboard was Daily Telegraph green press release recycler Louise Gray, who writes:
I was lucky enough to be the only journalist on board the maiden voyage from Amsterdam to London, along with Thom Yorke, the rock star singer from Radiohead and a typical international crew of activists, professional sailors and volunteers. As we sail out from the Hook of Holland, ‘Greenpeace groupies’ gather on shore to wave us off and Dutch passers-by shout: ‘Nice Yacht Hippies!’
It’s been said before that green businesses don’t need viable business models or financing, just a friendly Democrat. If you doubted that fact, how did 80% of green loans end up going to Obama donors? If you happen to be a Kennedy as well, the money you can net for your green project can really add up.
Occupy Missoula, meet the Gore Effect.
Al Gore cheers on Christiana Figueres of the UN as she begs for magic beans ahead of COP17-fest in Durban:
“I stand before you with a clear request: help us break the vicious cycle, help us convert it into a virtuous cycle that can empower new growth, create jobs in new sectors, help alleviate poverty and stabilize climate at the same time.”
Figueres needs to coordinate with Naomi Klein on messaging for the green agenda, for the Canadian anti-capitalist doesn’t want growth or jobs.
The Natural Resources Defense Council says mankind is destroying reefs, and they’re right. Oh, wait, that was Greenpeace.
Hippie think tank the Pew Center on Global Climate Change ran out of other people’s money to keep the doors open, but fortunately, Big Oil stepped up with some funding. We can all look forward to future green-on-green action when other hippies denounce everything the newly-named Center for Climate and Energy Solutions says because of the Big Oil connection.
The OWS movement is closely aligned with the green movement, but was leaving 70 dump trucks of waste in Portland really that green? Why do hippies hate Mother Earth so?
Elon Musk says “…there’s no question that at a certain level, [CO2 emissions] will destroy the Earth, or destroy large portions of the Earth”. Which is why he’s making a $50,000 electric sports car, to outrun the devastation.
It’s a sign: Green consultancy AEA lost its CEO and predicts brutally low earnings. It’s as if no-one wants to pay for greenwash anymore.
Convicted climate activist Tim DeChristopher wants to throw President Obama under the green bus:
The climate movement could also rock the boat by campaigning for Jon Huntsman right now. Aside from playing dirty, I genuinely believe that Jon Huntsman would make a better president than Obama. Very public support for Huntsman from the climate movement could create some interesting public discussion about how the Dems have failed to address the climate crisis. Campaigning for Huntsman might also scare Obama enough that he takes some steps over the next year to try to win us back.
If DeChristopher thinks Obama takes greens seriously, he should serve extra time for being felony stupid.
Global warming muppet Jim Hansen strapped on water skis and jumped the shark when he claimed the Texas and Moscow heatwaves were a direct result of global warming. He didn’t get the memo, apparently.
Michael ‘Stick’ Mann is to receive a medal, but gets called names and still needs to give up his emails.
Hungry yet? If some hippies get their way, you soon will be.
Part Three: Inconvenient Truths
China may continue to pump out CO2 as if it were going out of style, but it’s okay, the Three Gorges Dam didn’t affect the climate.
Americans rank the Environment dead last as a concern in a new Gallup poll. The pesky populace seems more interested in jobs and security than slightly milder weather that is blamed on a harmless trace gas essential to life on Earth.
The EPA wants to shutter most of North Dakota’s oil-drilling, and is hiding the impacts of its activism against coal:
In a “What are the energy impacts?” section, the EPA concedes that it “is aware that concerns have been expressed by some, even in advance of this proposed rule, that this regulation may detrimentally impact the reliability of the electric grid.”
…
But here’s the kicker: This reliability section was gone when the EPA released its utility rule proposal in May 2011. Why did it vanish? Where did it go?
Good news, Australia is enrolled in the soon-to-be-subprime carbon market. Don’t worry Aussies, economies are over-rated, just ask Greece.
Michael Mann’s hockey stick made invisible. All you need is facts.
It’s fairly typical for warmists to up the scary rhetoric ahead of a climate conference, which is why the IPCC said:
“climate change signals are expected to be relatively small compared to natural climate variability over the coming two to three decades”
Wait, what? Did the IPCC, the gold-standard of all things green, just toss global warming under the bus? This looks like it:
While it is “likely” that anthropogenic influences are behind the changes in cold days and warm days, there is only “medium confidence” that they are behind changes in extreme rainfall events, and “low confidence” in attributing any changes in tropical cyclone activity to greenhouse gas emissions or anything else humanity has done.
And so does this inconvenient truth for global-warming-causes-disasters fetishists:
“Long-term trends in normalized economic disaster losses cannot be reliably attributed to natural or anthropogenic climate change.”
Slap me with a kipper and call me Shirley, the IPCC is suddenly cautious with predictions. I wonder why?
The French have been caught spying on Greenpeace. Life jacket futures are up and Radiohead greatest hits CD’s are being stockpiled.
Skeptic environmentalist and ex-ABBA frontman Bjorn Lomborg has harsh words for hippies:
Green energy policies currently being pursued are not helping the environment or the economy. More likely, they will lead to greater emissions in China, more outsourcing to India, and lower growth rates for the well-intentioned “green” countries.
Chris Huhne, the UK’s Secretary of Energy and Silly Walks Global Warming Climate Disruption Change says his green economy will grow lots of new jobs. However, losing over 600 jobs as a smelter quits the country because of rising energy costs is not a good sign.
It was mentioned before that the WWF and Coca-Cola are in bed together to save the polar bears. But did the WWF mention to Coke that only two years ago they said polar bear populations were rising? .
Grist thinks global warming will be a campaign issue, but it seems less likely when the number of scientists at a congressional briefing outnumber the politicians who attend.
Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory is shocked, shocked, to discover trees prefer more CO2 than less. Next week, hippie geniuses will declare water is wet, much to their surprise.
If wind is one wing of a sustainable energy future, why are 14,000 wind turbines abandoned in the US?
Lemmings have been messing with Texas.
Happy Blogday greetings to Anthony Watts, who has been annoying hippies for five years. It was gratifying to see Anthony refer to ‘weepy Bill McKibben’ in a recent post. The snark, it’s catching.
Tony Blair made a very costly mistake, as politicians do when they try to act without understanding the issue. Which is always, pretty much:
…in March 2007, the prime minister had made “a multi-billion-pound gaffe” when he signed us up to the European Council’s historic commitment that, by 2020, the EU would derive 20 per cent of its energy from renewable sources. What Blair did not realise, as he and the EU’s political leaders argued “until two or three in the morning” without their technical advisers, was that “energy” includes many things, such as gas for heating, which cannot be derived from renewables.
American taxpayers bailed out the solar industry with $3 billion, in Spain. Olé, or something.

Part Four: Global Hottie
This week, the hottie is a girl who keeps a promise. Mila Kunis was invited to a Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Scott Moore, and after a little nudge from fellow screen star Justin Timberlake, she agreed to go as Sgt. Moore’s date. The Ball is this Friday (18th), and everything is set to go. For being a good sport, for supporting the troops and for being, well, hot, Mila Kunis is your hottie this week.
Timberlake tells of his own experience as a celebrity date at a Marine Ball here. A picture of Timberlake, for the ladies who follow the Bayonet, is here.

Captain Dave - the link is now fixed, thanks for the tip.
MostlyHarmless, thanks for the lesson en Francais, but I like to get my French wrong, it annoys the snot out of Quebec.
occupy missoula links to soylent green/kennedy - ?
“take that, le hippies”
- it’s “les hippies “, of course, as any French advocate of nuclear power would know. No inference about sexual proclivities should be made. Has the IPCC sunk at its moorings as well?
Why was the Moonbat not invited to ride the Hippie Yacht?
