The man who would be King President is in all sorts of trouble.
He has failed to shake off the taint from his relationship with the odious Rev. Wright. He has failed to properly explain away his Rezko links. He has failed to adequately explain his relationship with Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground. And he recently failed to win a debate, in somewhat spectacular fashion.
ABC is taking a lot of flak for asking ‘tough’ questions. I noted here that it seems only correct to ask tough questions of a man who wants to be President. The whining about the media is, frankly, pathetic from a candidate that claims to be able to face dictators in negotiations.
His test now is to prove to an increasingly curious America that there is any substance behind the style. On current performance the only Administration job he seems qualified for is Press Secretary. He might have a good portion of hardened left-wing Democrats convinced, but he needs a lot more support than that particular group can bring.
I’m sure that GOP strategists are praying for Obama to be the Democratic nominee - it would almost be too easy to destroy his credibility in a real campaign. Clinton is both tougher and more wily - and while I think McCain can win the whole deal against either Dem, it’ll be a harder fought battle against Clinton than Obama.
The great American voters dodged the Gore and Kerry disasters in waiting, let’s see if they can make it a trifecta and kick Obama to the curb in November (if he gets the Dem nod).
