Alarmist Predictions

BC Carbon Tax Drives Government Wage Inflation

The unpopular British Columbia carbon tax introduced July 1st has started to drive up wages as people demand more cash to make ends meet.

The people getting the extra cash are top BC government officials, not
the average BC taxpayer.  BC will be paying its top political staffers
an extra 22 to 43 per cent extra.  This latest increase comes only two
years after the BC Liberals increased the same staffers wages by 25%.

One example: Deputy Minister Jessica McDonald has seen her $243,936
salary boosted to $348,600, over $100,000 more a year.  That should
offset the pain caused by the carbon tax.

The official reason for the raised wages is something to do with the province 'remaining competitive' with Ontario and Alberta.  The irony that BC's carbon tax makes the province uncompetitive is apparently  lost on these people.

Premier Campbell has figured out that his left coast electorate is more than willing to be taxed to death to 'save the planet', while he throws around their tax money to enrich his ministerial buddies. Once Ontario's Dalton McGuinty sees how easy it is to fleece the people and get rich he'll be all over this idea like a cheap suit on a used-car salesman.

Bend over BC, here comes your provincial government. Again.
