Alarmist Predictions

Powerless: The Green Promise

It’s going to be dark and cold in the UK soon, as aging power stations fail and demand for power increases.

In the next ten years over 40% of the UK’s power generating capacity will go offline:

“Within a few years, eight of the nine nuclear plants that supply 20 per
cent of our power will come to the end of their life. We shall also -
thanks to an EU anti-pollution directive - have to close nine of the
major coal and oil-fired power stations that provide another 20 per
cent.”

The reasons that the UK is soon to be powerless are all green. Greens oppose Nuclear power, simply because they are afraid of it, not for any good reason. Greens oppose coal because it’s too polluting. Greens oppose natural gas because it’s not sustainable.

Greens have all the objections and none of the solutions. They want wind power:

“The energy from turbines is derisory: the 1,600MW plant planned for
Kingsnorth would generate two-and-a-half times more electricity than
all the 2,300 wind turbines already built. And due to the intermittency
of wind, as E.On recently explained, we will need new conventional
power stations to provide nearly 100 per cent back-up for the times
when it is not blowing.”

“energy from turbines is derisory”

They want solar power:

“…roof panels for
heating water and generating power are unlikely to save enough from
bills to make them financially viable in a householder’s lifetime. In
the case of solar panels to heat water for baths and showers, the
institution estimates the payback time from money saved from
electricity and gas bills will take more than 100 years - and up to 166
years in the worst case… Given that the devices have a maximum lifetime of 30 years, they are
never likely to recoup the 3,000 to 20,000 cost of their installation…”

a very bad investment

Unless the UK finds a political leader with enough spine to face down nonsense-peddling green activists then the country will quite literally be in the dark. We live in a real world, one that activists don’t acknowledge exists, so arguing with them makes no sense.

People need affordable power and it’s a basic responsibility to ensure there is enough of it. What is happening in Britain today is what the greens want to happen everywhere, for progress to stop. They are pseudo-religious zealots of the Gore cult with no idea of the damage they do with their knee-jerk luddite attitudes.

The only source of power that can provide enough affordable electricity without pollution is nuclear. Get the greens out of the way and build nukes now. Lot’s of them.
