Green Grocers?

Once, not too long ago, it was possible to drive to the supermarket, buy what you needed, have the sales clerk bag your purchases and drive home. Simple, convenient and guilt-free.

Then came the warmist ecotards and the green agenda to control every aspect of our lives. Supermarket chains jumped on the eco-bandwagon to increase profits and appease the rowdy green activist’s demand of the week.

Canadian grocery chains started charging for plastic bags, or encouraged customers to buy re-usable bags, both initiatives that are good money makers for stores. But inconveniently, if competitors don’t fall in line, the fee-for-bags scam collapses and re-usable bags might kill you.

The problem for stores trying to appease greens is that warmists are never satisfied:

Which? said: ‘Online supermarkets like to use their websites to boast about environmental credentials, but when you use these sites for shopping, the number of carrier bags delivered to your door can be staggeringly wasteful.

UK grocery chain Tesco attempted to find a scientific solution with a new biodegradable plastic bag, but like so many green initiatives the solution proved worse than the original problem.

To round off a bad foray into the green world, supermarkets in the UK have been caught making ‘eco’ claims about products that are no more environmentally friendly than regular, cheaper products. If you needed proof that the commercial green movement is only about moralizing, marketing and feel-good nonsense, that’s a pretty good example right there.
