The Met

The BBC is considering dropping use of the Met Office because it turns out that they are actually crap at forecasting weather:

The state-owned forecaster has recently been criticised for predicting it would be a ‘mild’ winter when we have just shivered in the biggest deep freeze for 30 years. And last year it infamously predicted a ‘barbecue summer’.

The Met’s shaky 90-year relationship with the BBC was given a kick in the teeth by a Beeb weatherhead who accused the futurecasters of possessing a ‘warm bias’. Will the BBC weather a storm of protest at this change, because last time they tried something new, there was nearly a revolution.

Mountains

The IPCC is likely to suffer an embarrassing reversal of doomsaying this week as it turns out that claims about glaciers melting in the Himalayas are bunk. The UN agency in charge of all things global warming issued the sky-is-falling alert based on nothing more than a magazine’s conversation with a single scientist. That’s peer review we can believe in.

Some journalists are still in denial about the reality of the global warming hoax and are happy to report ’scientists’ doubling down on stupid:

The saving grace for climate science is that the sloppiness of the IPCC’s treatment of the Himalayan glaciers has been exposed from within the community. Prof Cogley, moreover, confirms that the glaciers are melting as the world warms up, if not as fast, and says that the mistake does not in any way invalidate the case for global warming. He says that, “in its totality” the evidence for climate change “is compelling”, adding: “There is no room for reasonable doubt that glaciers in the Himalayas and Karakoram are losing mass, and it is quite probable that the rate of loss has accelerated recently.”
