Ontario's gutless leader Dalton McGuinty looks like he'll duck a hot issue, again. I refer to him in the post title.
McGuinty's ignoring the issue means he is valuing the lives and rights of Muslim women (the usual victims of this sordid practice) as less important than his ability to get votes and avoid splodey threats. He's a coward and has no right leading a parade, let alone a province.
For the record, here's bobble-head Jack Layton, in 2005, denying that allowing gay marriage leads to polygamy:
"Eighty-seven per cent of Canadians live in a province or territory in
which equal marriages are conducted today. Husbands still love their
wives. No faith has been forced to perform a ceremony it didn`t want
to. Polygamy has not sprouted" (link)
Enough is enough, surely Canadians need to stop the insidious creep of a practice that belongs in the stone age? Of course, for any meaningful action it would require Dalton McGuinty to show spine and leadership, and the Maple Leafs might win the Stanley Cup before that happens.

Simon,
Thanks for the excellent comments. I do agree that untraveled and insular lawyers make for poor political leaders - I would much prefer some experienced person that had a few battle scars, whether actual or diplomatic.
McGuinty needs to get a spine transplant or move aside - unfortunately with the bovine John Tory as the leader of the provincial conservatives that may not happen for too long.
I agree.
I am going to start mailing out letters to the Premier and AG on this issue.
If enough people it he will be forced to take a position.
Hello The Daily Bayonet:
Ah, where to begin? You wrote that “…McGuinty’s ignoring the issue means he is valuing the lives and rights of Muslim women (the usual victims of this sordid practice) as less important than his ability to get votes and avoid splodey threats.”
That’s funny stuff, but the awful truth is that McGuinty MUST consider Muslim women to be worth -at best - only HALF AS MUCH as Christian, Jewish and secular women. The latter grouping, of course, enjoy EQUALITY in Canada - in public places, in the workplace, in the home. This is NOT true of Muslim women - the “equality in the home” part doesn’t apply to them in the “all cultures and religions are created equal and should be accorded the same accommodation by the Canadian mainstream” namby-pamby universe of the untravelled.
In Islam and under Shari’a law, the testimony of TWO women is equal to the testimony of ONE man.
You see, Dalton’s being “sensitive” and “accommodating” of Islam by relegating half Ontario’s Muslim population to a “less than equal with the rest of us” status. Isn’t liberal ideology a wonderful thing?
But what can we expect? Canadians overwhelmingly favour lawyers as political candidates, yet consistently identify the profession as the scummiest mentionable in poll after poll. Lawyers, I need not point out, do NOT bulid their careers by taking international postings in places far and near. Such experience usually attenuates the propensity for leftist ideological perspectives to override reality on the ground. So the legal profession is PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE to cultural ignorance in “the Canadian Mosaic” as they used to call it.
Try socializing with legal practitioners committed to a “career” in law and find out for yourself (not that this is a screed against lawyers, merely an observation about the field from which Canadians pick their politicians).
Just an observation, but years of re-evaluating this observation have only confirmed its veracity to me.
Anyway, back to McGuinty.
As a lawyer, politician, etcetera, McGuinty has never experienced “reality on the ground” in Canada the way most Canadians do - or at least not in a long, long time.
Next, McGuinty has never experienced “reality on the ground” living and working in other countries under various legal systems. This is a matter of record.
This is where Dalton and I differ.
I lived in the Middle east - for years at a stretch - with my wife and family. This is also true of many of my friends and associates. Unsurprisingly, all who were born in a western democracy agree that they would never voluntarily live on a permanent basis in any Middle Easter country with the exception of Israel. Why? Funny thing, but “oppression of women” is among the FIRST things they all mention.
Dalton and Co. need to get out more.
I’m tired of having the Canuckistani political equivalent of Jethro Bodine run Ontario, arent’t you? And I can live without “Granny” - Dalty’s mother - and her recent ruminations as documented in the media, can’t you?
Vote accordingly next time around - but PLAGUE his office with correspondence that requires an actual response instead of a form letter. THAT is the correspondence that actually gets “logged in detail” in the Premier’s office…
