A month ago the news was full of the Toronto District School Board’s decision to approve a segregated ‘Africentric’ school.
I opposed the idea of a separate Africentric school and I opposed John Tory’s idea of funding religious schools. Here’s why - in the UK today:
"The John Loughborough School in Haringey, founded by Seventh-day
Adventists, was the first school from outside the traditional Christian
denominations to get state subsidy under a policy later used by
Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus to create their own taxpayer-funded faith
schools.
But parents are furious that Haringey council has - with the
Government’s backing - sent in its own appointees to take over from
headteacher June Alexis at a time of mounting concern that the school
is in "meltdown".
I hope that Dalton McGuinty, John Tory and the Toronto District School Board are paying attention. When schools become politicized and separated, bad things happen.

Thanks for the comment.
The article mentioned that this school had paved the way for other schools with Hindu and Muslim focus - do you have any insight into how those are performing?
I’m a teacher in the area. The reputation of the school within the education community has not been good for a while. Half of the pupils are not seventh day adventist so one has to ask if this a good use of public funds i.e. for the “benefit” of 150 pupils. And who knows what is being taught in their science lessons..
