Liberal leader Stephane Dion is making parliament a laughingstock.
After delivering a meaningless and weak budget amendment for consideration to the House, Dion ensured that only 7 Liberal MP’s were sitting for the vote. That’s right, Stephane Dion made a meaningless gesture to make it look like he wasn’t entirely rolling over on the budget, only to roll over entirely on the amendment. It’s simply pathetic.
Dion knows that his leadership is so weak, and his party so fractured and unpopular that he needed to ensure that there was no way his cynically worded amendment could force an election. So, to be sure of his own amendment’s defeat, all but 7 Liberal MP’s stayed out of the House for the vote.
It is time for an election - Canada is poorly served by its official opposition when it cannot act in good faith as opposition. Dion claims Canadians don’t want an election, which is Liberal code for Canadians don’t want Stephane Dion to win an election. Looking at his record this week, it’s not hard to see why.
