Six hippies who were to be tried for a plot to disrupt a UK power station are no longer facing charges.
The undercover cop who infiltrated the group has gone native and offered his services to the defense - forcing the prosecution to drop the charges. If one of the accused is to be believed, officer Mark Kennedy joined the cult he was supposed to be monitoring quite a long time ago:
Danny Chivers, one of the six defendants, said: “We’re not talking about someone sitting at the back of the meeting taking notes – he was in the thick of it.” He said Mr Kennedy had been helping to plan the Ratcliffe-on-Soar demonstration for “months” and had driven a team in his van to recce the site ahead of the protest. Mr Kennedy had also been one of the “key people” in organising protests against the 2005 G8 summit at Gleneagles, he claimed.
Infiltrating cults is tricky work and poor officer Kennedy lost his sense of direction and self only to fall headfirst into the dark abyss of a soap-free existence filled with patchouli and trust-fund girls with hairy armpits.
We can only hope that he’s safe and being deprogrammed.

Of course, even if they had been tried and convicted, this is the UK; they’d never have gotten within spitting distance of the inside of a jail cell.
