Arizona Trumps the Myth
Washington D.C. Can’t, or Won’t, Do its Job
How Dare Arizonans Assert their Sovereignty! Arizona asserting its sovereignty contrary to what is seen as a federal prerogative is probably the news story of my time — bigger than America’s “first African-American president since Clinton.” Of all the things happening in the U.S. right now, this is THE issue that could spark outright conflict, as in, Fort Sumter. This may not be the Fort Sumter moment. This may be — or may lead to - the John Brown precursor.
Bruce Walker addresses the Constitutional issue: Under our federal system, state governments and their political subdivisions may not impose undue burdens on interstate commerce. Arizona trumps the myth that states can’t protect their sovereignty. What will Obama do?
I have stressed repeatedly at Washington Rebel that both Libertarians and Conservatives have omitted an essential ingredient from their political efforts, to wit: Organic Society; Community; Stewardship. Both parties lapse into the ”less government lower taxes” mantra without addressing the more fundamental issue: Public Virtue. Said omission gives the Left an opening it doesn’t deserve to inject ideology into society, into Heritage. I have predicted — based upon 25 years experience in the criminal justice system - that as Chaos increases, patience for “tolerance” will subside markedly. The Arizona experience is the beginning of something you will see more of in the future. It will not end with Arizona.

Back-asswards. “Public Virtue” is what gives the Left an opening it doesn’t deserve. I’m sure it would horrify Cicero to learn that a reader might translated that as “state enforced virtue”…
Well, let’s pray Progressives don’t discover and tout your post; we’d be set back 10 years.
“Less government” is adequate. Recover the private sphere & traditional virtue will flourish.

Actually, I don’t share your optimism in that regard, HA. We have some terrible lessons to learn. Do you believe the current American is as mature as people were in the 1940s? I certainly don’t.
“Public Virtue” was the term the Founding Fathers used to describe what you and I might call Republican Virtue. At the time of the Revolution, there was what could be described as a revolution in virtue. A sound person subsumed his private interests to the greater good.
All you folks who think we’re doing just fine are in for one hell of an awakening.
