Greenwashing grocery chain Tesco has been hailing itself as an eco-friendly place to shop because its plastic bags are degradable. The truth, however, is that the new bags are worse than the ordinary plastic bags they replaced:
The carrier bags, which are designed to break down within three years, leave behind tiny plastic particles that could harm birds, insects and mammals. The report also warned the bags can litter the countryside for up to five years before they degrade, far longer than the supermarket claims.
Re-usable ‘green’ bags sold by supermarkets are toxic bacteria farms and paper bags are less friendly than plastic, a fact that Ontario’s LCBO casually ignored:
It’s time greens got out of the way and let us carry our groceries home any way we choose, because everything they try ends up worse than before they interfered.
