PETA, the gold standard of lunatic activists, has issued a call for the world to boycott maple syrup, because Canada is cruel.
They are upset because the Governor General of Canada sliced up and ate a seal heart on her recent visit to the far North.
It’s easy to see why PETA chose to boycott maple syrup, the annual maple tree cull and syrupy goodness being drawn from its mother tree is enough to make a grown man cook a pancake or twelve.
Holy Hell! They just get more and more ridiculous by the minute! I’m going to keep drowning my pancakes in maple syrup, and NOT feel guilty!

Just goes to show you the ignorance of Americans on the subject of Canada. Maple syrup (80+%) comes from Quebec. More specifically regions just north of Montreal… Nunavut is roughly 120-180 miles NNE. Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada (746,048 sq mi)- YES. It is however a VERY small population of only 29,474. 70% of the pop are native Inuktitut. Why not punish Greenland - they are just as close.

I’m Canadian… and I understand PETA’s stance here. I don’t advocate seal hunting or the killing/torture of animals really for any reason. There are so many healthier, humane, eco-friendly ways to live. However…
I realize that my point of view may come off as ignorant because I am a middle-class, 18-year-old Canadian who lives in a Southerly part of the country. I understand that people need to survive, but in this day in age, there is no excuse for the billions of LIVING CREATURES whom are disregarded in favor of earth’s most narcassistic species…. humans. T
his isn’t an animal rights issue… it’s more like (generally) mankind’s superiority complex issue. We maim/kill/torture/disregard fellow human beings just like we do animals, because at the heart of everyone, including myself, there is an undeniable yearning for self-promotion. It is no different than slavery, The Holocaust, sexism… ‘My life is more important than yours, and so for my own benefit you will be removed.’
Is this really the world’s mentality? Most people will say no and tell you how awful they think it is that animals have to be killed to be eaten; but then they go to McDonald’s afterwards, and so things never change.
I would like to survive and prosper, but at what costs? There is at least one Canadian who gives a cares. I’m going to do something about this!!!
I hope that you’re not trying to equate the holocaust with ‘animal rights’, because then I would have no option to take you at your word that you are an ignorant 18 year old.
Hopefully your pledge to ‘do something about this’ will result in you educating yourself why your holocaust comparison is so very, very inappropriate.

People like you are dangerous and thrive of sprouting your extremely biased opinions to your small audience.
PETA are not angry because someone ate a seal heart you moron. Talk about ignorant - they are mad, as are most of the rest of the world, at the way you allow these creatures, who have every right to be here as much as you or I, to be treated. I have witnessed the torture first hand and I can tell you, you would be boycotting syrup too if you had seen it.
The boycotting Maple Syrup is a symbol of standing up for something in one way that people who cannot donate money or time - can do. Making a stand for something.
Guess its like Obama making a stand against the Canadians for the continued ignorance on Global Warming. Now that was a well directed harpoon.
I am neither Canadian or American - and had actually always thought Canadians had more sense of spirit. But you small minded people are probably the ones that wear the bloody fur… make yourself more informed, watch a video or two on the PETA site - before making judgements about a group that stand for SOMETHING…..
Peta are a bunch of bleeding heart liberals that want to stop carnivores from what doing comes naturally.
If seals don’t want to be eaten, they should get on and evolve instead of relying on dirty hippies to do their fighting for them.
Merry Christmas, I’m looking forward to a freshly culled turkey, how ’bout you?

I’d like to say I’m a Canuck and I’m being active.
I’m all for the ethical treatment of animals, but what actually bothers me is PeTA’s way of handling it, and other Canadians I would hope would feel the same.
First of all if it’s an issue with Canadians then Canadians should voice it to their government, NOT Americans. Even more so not celebrities who have millions upon millions of dollars and who of course will not be affected financially if the seal hunt stops.
Also I’d like to point out what something Maude said which is “NO ONE eats or wears seal in Canada…” which actually is true (with the exception of the Inuit who I believe are entitled to the hunt as a tradition and for their actual respect of animals)… so where is that fur going? Well it’s banned in Europe right? The truth is a good portion is going to American’s.
So here you have a predominantly American organization voicing their disgust and trying to boycott Canada (as if Canada was a company) when really if they want to do something take the fight to their own country and stop it there, cause if I’m not mistaken there is the Alaskan Seal Hunt which although not quite as large as Canada’s it is still larger then the Atlantic hunt.
If American’s (two of the largest companies profiting from the seal hunt are Gucci and Prada just so you know) weren’t benefiting from the hunt it likely wouldn’t be happening now would it. If there was no demand for it from other countries it wouldn’t happen.
I don’t agree with the hunt, but I don’t agree with PeTA either, I just feel like saying butt out. Also I know some people are pointing fingers at the Conservatives and Harper, but just remember that the Liberals (with Chrétien and Paul Martin) didn’t do anything about it in years prior.
Sorry if this is a bit defensive but it’s just something that doesn’t sit right with me as much as the seal hunt, I hope this is a fair way to feel.

We will see if they publish it. I figure if they can voice their disgust with Canada and the Seal Hunt, they would be equally fair and let me display my disgust with them on their own organization.
What really gets me is they have a campaign right now to follow the Olympic Torch through Canada and EDUCATE CANADIANS about OUR SEAL HUNT. Here you have AMERICANS who apparently can tell us a thing or two about our own country, when in reality what do American’s actually know about Canada (the sad thing is that PeTA can get away with this cause they are using Canadian PeTA followers to do this). Also why are Canadians listening to them. Canadians should be smarter then this not to believe the bogus and sensationalized rantings of a ludicrous group.
I’m really for the ethical treatment of animals, but I’m not so high and mighty to tell other countries how to live as I don’t know who may or may not depend on certain traditions and cultural activities. I mean I’m not going to Japan right now to protest the killing of whales and sharks, because that’s an industry they live on and I don’t believe I have any right to tell them how to live.
Anyways I’m just sick of PeTA and I wish other people would open their eyes that the only reason PeTA gives a shit more then ever right now is because eyes are on Canada for once. It’s sad that not more Canadians are telling PeTA to get out and save this for another day, cause I’m going to tell you right now that the Olympics and the Seal Hunt have little to nothing in common other then the fact that both are taking place in the same country. The Olympics have absolutely nothing to do with the Seal Hunt… it’s not a sport at the Olympics, we aren’t selling clothes and goods made of seals… there is no relation. I’m just sick and tired and I wish there was an organized group that I could join to help push PeTA the hell out of the way.
